In honor of Earth Day and every day. Here are some simple choices you can blend into your everyday life at work and home to help care for our planet.

These are a few our personal favorites. If you can choose one you’re on the road to a “greener” lifestyle.

1} Leave the paper towels at the store. Try microfiber for cleaning and cloth napkins!

2} Plant something! Nothing cleans the air inside like a live plant.

3} Stop using disposable bags, use the cloth bags from the supermarket. We love them and some have fun colors and designs! (or at least make returning the plastic bags to the store for recycling part of your routine).

4}  Shop and Donate to your local thrift shop. This is win – win. Hard to find items are always at the thrift shop! Someone else just might need that perfectly usable sweater in aqua from Aunt Mary that you have outgrown! Less waste in the landfill, more money in your pocket!

5} Pay your bills online, SAY NO to paper bills. Greener, less waste, save time.

6} Support your local economy and shop at your farmer’s market. This just makes good sense, fresher food and supporting your local economy!

7} Wash laundry in cold water instead of hot. Believe it or not, cold water works better and leaves less soap
residue in clothing.

8} Turn off lights when you leave the room.

9} Rechargeable batteries. Not only are you saving money, your creating less waste.

10} Turn the computers off after hours! This was the hard one for us, but we have saved a lot of dollars doing this simple task.

Small changes make a better Earth.

I love having a vegetable garden in the spring/summer. It’s so delicious and so healthy and eco-friendly. Also, we have a compost heap. It’s really not difficult!

Composting is surprisely easy and being in North Carolina we have clay in our dirt since we composted our yard’s dirt is so much better, well in the back yard that is! Getting those free coffe grounds from the coffee shops is awesome way to make that dirt richer!

My personal favorite is not buying water plastic water in bottles anymore and I purchased a water filter. All members of the household have their own water bottle to fill and clean daily. Saving money and not picking those empty bottles all over the house any more.

  7. I wash clothes in cold water. I hang s lot of things to dry. I try to take short showers. I like to shop in thrift stores bc it gives those clothes a second life.

Empty your car trunk, keep tire pressure at optimum range and run several errands in one trip to save gas and diminish pollution.

  10. Thanks for the fun contest! xo

  11. My tip would be to landscape your yard with climate appropriate plants. Too many people waste water trying to grow lush grass in arid climates. Xeriscaping is a more ecologically friendly choice!

We follow all your tips. I know many folks have problems turning off their computer but even if they just turn off the monitor, it will save so much!
    Thank you so much!
