Often, business owners can make choices in a vacuum and forget that in order to really strike your marketing match you’ve got to do at least four things:
Stay Up to Date: Yea, as retro as you’d like to be, the point is you HAVE to know what’s happening in the world around you to know what your modern audience may want or need. If you don’t know, you won’t make a wise decision on budget issues and stocked products. Eventually, your retro quality and old-school style will stop being pleasantly ironic and kitschy and begin being annoying to your clientele.
Share Your Expertise: You may have something that people want, and you may want to charge for that something, but sometimes you have to know what and when to give away your expertise in a way that could bring your business some shine! Give just enough to spike the curiosity and to instill in your potential customers that you have the knowledge and skills to meet their needs.
Study Up: You have to know who your competition is and what your competition is doing. Only then can you know how to grab your audience at a higher and keener level.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: You can’t expect to ignite something better without stepping out of your normal routine. Even if you decide to revamp your own “tried and true” routine, stepping out will help you know what you DON’T want. And finding out what you don’t want is often the key to finding what you DO want and what works for you.
So give it a strike. Light your match and put the fire back into your marketing plan. You have A LOT to lose if you don’t!
