What Is A Sales Funnel? And How Does It Help You Sell Online?

So what is a sales funnel exactly? And why is it so important for online businesses? We’re going to take a detailed look at these questions in this article.

What is a Sales Funnel?

This is the path that visitors take to, and through your website pages. They take this path on the way to purchasing your product or your services. The great news is that you have a lot of influence over how many potential customers reach the very bottom of your sales funnel.

The Importance of a Sales Funnel

When you understand your sales funnel you can find some of the holes that exist in your current process that are losing you sales. These are the areas where your website visitors never buy anything and eventually drop out of the funnel.

How a Sales Funnel Works

There are many different ways to describe how different parts of a sales funnel works. However, we’re going to look at some of the more common terms.

– Awareness

Awareness occurs when you catch the attention of a consumer. This might occur if they have seen a post on social media or they’ve completed a Google search. However, their attention might also have been caught in a different way entirely.

At this point, a consumer is aware of your business and the goods or services you offer.

– Interest

Once a consumer has reached this stage they’re researching and considering their options. This is when you can swoop in and create content that helps them. If you’re too pushy at the interest stage you might turn the consumer away. What you need to do is help them to make a decision.

– Decision

At this stage of the funnel, the consumer is ready to make a purchase. At this point, they might be considering a few options. With any luck, one of the options includes you. This is when your offer of free shipping, a discount, or a bonus could help.

– Action

Action is at the bottom of the funnel. This is where the consumer purchases your service or product. However, your work is not yet done. You need to turn that single purchase into 10 purchases, and into 100 purchases, and so on.

Creating an effective sales funnel takes a lot of time. However, it is the only way for you to survive in the marketplace.

Make sure you take enough time to build a sales funnel. You need it to represent what you and your audience want. Cultivating it over time could help you to target the right people.
